‘Child is the father of man’ is one of the popular saying of the modern times. It emphasizes that the qualities and traits acquired in childhood are carried over when one grows old. So what are we imparting our children today? A quick thinking on this will make us realize the rat race we have been pushing our children into. The race to excel in school, games, music and other extra co-curricular are sometimes our own dreams imposed on our children and sometimes are the result of our false sense of popularity and success. Instead of imparting moral values and knowledge about our Vedic Scriptures, we are pushing them towards the ‘secular’ education system that is omitting our true history and identity, the inseparable part of the Lord. Instead of teaching them to be dutiful, merciful, and ethical, we are training them in sensual and instant gratification. We are unfortunately limiting them to learn about the means to ‘just survive’ in the current society.
So ISKCON Ranchi is trying to address this problem with our initiative, the ‘Prahlad School’ aimed at children aged 5-15 years. Just like our motto ‘We Teach What They Don’t Teach’, we help our architects of tomorrow to learn about the principles and knowledge of life with fun and activity programs. We help the children learn and develop respect, compassion and empathy for others. They are taught about honesty and the rightful behavior towards their parents, community, and the universe. With the basics of life principles from Vedic scriptures ingrained at an early stage, we prepare them to grow spiritually and excel in the challenges to be faced later on.
